Wind power plants teaches the physical foundations of usage of Wind Power. It includes the areas like Construction of Wind Power Plants, Design, Development of Production Series, Control, and discusses the dynamic forces acting on the systems as well as the power conversion and its connection to the distribution system.

The book is written for graduate students, practitioners and inquisitive readers of any kind. It is based on lectures held at several universities. Its German version it already is the standard text book for courses on Wind Energy Engineering but serves also as reference for practising engineers.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Robert Gasch is one of the leading researchers and pioneers in wind energy conversion. He was born 1936 in Darmstadt, Germany. He is Professor emeritus at Technical University Berlin were was heading the Structural Dynamics’ group at the department of aerospace engineering. His interest in Wind Energy started in the 80ies when he recognized the limits of natural resources as well as the challenges in nuclear power plants.and the first edition of his German textbook “Windkraftanlagen” Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Twele started as a scientists at the  Department of Aerospace Engineering at Technical University Berlin. Since 2004 he is holding the chair for Regenerative Energies  at University of Applied Science Berlin.Gasch and Twele are authors of the German “Windkraftanlagen”. The first edition appeared in 1991 and became immediately a bestseller. Now, the 2nd English translation “Wind Power Plants“ corresponding tot he 7th German edition is published at Springer.

Questionnaire.- Introduction.- Historical development of windmills.- Design and components .- The wind blade geometry.- Calculation of performance characteristics.- Scaling wind turbines and rules of similarity.- Structural dynamics.- Guidelines and analysis procedures.- Wind pump systems.- Electricity generation.- Supervisory and control systems.- Concepts of electricity generation.- Operation at the interconnected grid.- Planning, operation and economics.- Offshore windfarms.

From the reviews of the second edition:

"This book was intended for graduate students, practitioners and anyone interested in the subject. ... It is well organized and gives the reader enough information to read the book without having any specialized knowledge on wind energy. ... Illustrations are plentiful and very good, and equations are clearly stated and easily followed. Furthermore, there are a great number of references at the back of each chapter ... . it is a great tool for students, practitioners, and engineers."
