The City of God is located in Artificial Reality. Its million inhabitants are dedicated to remaining in AR 24 hours a day. Police inspector Dore Konstantin has never wanted anything to do with them, until someone is murdered.
Further hard-SF adventures of Dore Konstantin in the unpredictable jungle of Artificiality Reality. The City of God is located somewhere in the badlands of Montana -- except that it's really located in Artificial Reality. Here reside the living bodies of a million people dedicated to remaining in AR twenty-four hours a day, till they die. They obtained their unique status by declaring themselves a religious group.. and police investigator Dore Konstantin has never wanted anything to do with them. Now, however, she has been sent there to work with ex-cop Graceland LaFortune, and begins to realise that some of their 'cases' are AR scenarios passed off as actual crimes. This all seems part of an elaborate publicity stunt - until someone in the City of God is murdered for real. Since that's only the first death, Dore is going to have her work cut out. Particularly as LaFontaine is intended as one of the next victims.

Previously resident in Kansas City, Pat Cadigan now lives in London. Two of her previous novels have won the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award, and she is rated as one of the most distinguished writers in the science-fiction firmament.
