This text provides expert instruction on the varying surgical techniques currently employed for the regeneration of the ocular surface. Corneal Regeneration: Therapy and Surgery begins with a thorough discussion of current research based on data obtained in clinical human studies, and discusses the potential clinical implications for this promising new stage of eye surgery. Sections devoted to the stem cell, regenerative surgery and therapy of the ocular surface epithelium, corneal stroma, and corneal endothelium follow, each section comprehensively covering  applied anatomy, current therapy and regenerative techniques, with a look to future directions of the field including eventual cell therapy.

Corneal Regeneration: Therapy and Surgery is the first book of its kind, systematically covering the developments the medical community has achieved in corneal regeneration from all angles. Written and edited by leading experts in the field, researchers and ophthalmologists alike will find this to be a unique source of information on corneal regeneration, as well as a thoughtful reflection on potential applications of regenerative surgery in ophthalmology as a whole.

Prof. Dr Jorge Alió has been Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology since 1987, first at the University of Alicante and since 2002 at the University Miguel Hernandez de Elche, also in Alicante, Spain. Dr. Alió has been deeply involved since the beginning of his professional career in Academic and Research activities in combination with an intense clinical and surgical practice. His main dedication has been to Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Surgery, even though within the broad basis of his medical education he has been involved in other areas such as Ocular Inflammation (uveitis), Vitreoretinal diseases and Strabismus surgery.  The activities of Dr. Alió are currently mainly oriented on an international basis and he has contributed to the organization, funding and dissemination of different international and Spanish scientific societies. He has collaborated in the organization of many international and Spanish symposiums and congresses, such as the International Ocular Inflammation Society ( IOIS ) the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery ( ESCRS ), The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) the International Society of Refractive Surgery ( ISRS) and the World Ophthalmology Congress ( WOC ) among many others. He has been the author or co-author of 440 peer review papers published in prestigious international scientific journals, 241 book chapters, 78 books (as editor or co-editor), over 200 collaborations in ophthalmic scientific journals and over 1800 presentations and invited lectures in international meetings.
