Raman instrumentation has matured enormously in recent years particularly with the development of improved detectors and laser sources. A new generation of cost-effective benchtop instruments is spearheading the technique into many laboratories, with applications in art, archaeology, conservation science, advanced materials, mineralogy, diagnostic medicine and pharmaceuticals.
