American Country

The hardy, pragmatic approach of the first European settlers in America lives on in the familiar silhouette of "saltbox" houses, the timber and clapboard construction of many modern homes, the pared-down beauty of Shaker furniture and the distinctive red paint that continues to adorn the American barn. Functional in origin, iconic in status, the ingredients and the spirit of "American Country" retain an inspirational power today. This work is an exploration of how the best contemporary work continues to draw on the simple but beautiful aesthetic of the Shakers and Puritan Founding Fathers.
