The progress seen in the technology of aluminium production during the last 20 years is based on a sound knowledge of the fundamental aspects. The purpose of the 3rd edition is to compile available data in a readily accessible form to facilitate further advances. Like the previous editions, the present book attempts to give a comprehensive treatise of the theory of aluminium electrolysis, and in addition to treat pertinent industrial aspects, such as impurities, alumina, fluoride emissions, carbon, inert anodes and alternative processes. The book will serve as a useful guide for anyone aiming to operate the Hall-Héroult process as efficiently as possible, trying to make further improvements to the process or developing new process alternatives.
