Preface These are the Proceedings of the 8th European Metallurgical Conference, taking place from 14th to 17th June 2015 at the city of Düsseldorf. Whereas the 7th Coference at Weimar was inspired by the spirit of Goethe – the famous German poet – this conference is embedded in a lot of important international events of the metallurgical society – the bright world of metals is presented in the exhibition halls of Düsseldorf at the same time. Organized by the GDMB the conference was always an international event situated in Europe high level of presentations have caused the interest in this unique conference more and more by authors and participants from Europe but also also from nearly every part of the world. For the first time we have grouped the presentations in a new way – according to different metals first and second to technologies like hydrometallurgy or pyrometallurgy. The slogan of the conference „Production of non-ferrous metals – indispensable foundation for the industry and our prosperity“ shall remind everybody that non-ferrous metals are involved in nearly all products we use today and which are the base of our wealth and the prerequisite for a sustainable development. In times, where the strong growth in the years at the beginning of our century – mainly because of China- has weakened, topics which are dealing with expansions and new plants have been replaced by topics dealing with optimization and improvement of efficiency to compensate for lower metal prices and lower ore grades. But also environmental issues have become more important – not only in China. So the proceedings of the conference reflect not only new production technologies but also topics leading to optimization and environmental protection. They are a good approach for finding new solutions for your own business and an opening to get in contact with the authors. Dr. rer nat. habil Bernd E. Langner EMC 2015, Scientific Committee Chair
