Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) demonstrate simplicity of their excitation and receipt, as well as their availability to all propagation ways of signal branching and processing. SAW devices are divided into several main classes: filters for signal processing at intermediate frequencies, delay lines, resonators, filters with low losses for the input circuits of receiver, and antenna duplexers for the connected receivers. The SAW devices are not only able to conduct an effective signal processing, but also serve as a basis for multi-subsystems (matched filtering, signal processing, real-time Fourier transform processors, etc.).

Additionally, SAW filters help scientists to realize the wide variety of frequency characteristics. Besides their unique electrical characteristics, SAW devices favorably differ from their analogs in small size, mechanical strength and high reliability, due to the quality of raw materials and their processing. The use of the photolithography and the achievements of group microelectronic technology in their production allow a researcher to achieve good reproducibility of parameters at relatively low cost.

In addition, currently SAW devices are widely used in various sensors based on the SAW radio frequency identification. This book presents an attempt to generalize a multi-year experience on R&D of SAW devices. It develops original approaches directed at discovering solutions of technical problems, as development of various SAW devices are patented in Russia. Moreover, the book presents some experimental and theoretical research results.

DrSc Ivan A Parinov received the MSc in Mechanics from the Rostov State University, Mechanics and Mathematics Department in 1978 (Rostov-on-Don, Russia), the PhD in Physics and Mathematics from the Rostov State University in 1990 and the DrSc in Techniques from the South-Russian State Technical University in 2008. He is Corresponding Member of Russian Engineering Academy (2014) He is working in the Vorovich Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Sciences Institute of the Southern Federal University (former Rostov State University) from 1978. Today, he is Chief Research Fellow. He has head in 1993-2015 the Research Grants and Programs from Soros Foundation, Collaboration for Basic Science and Education (COBASE, USA), Russian Foundation for Basic Research (10 grants), Russian Ministry for Science and Education (7 grants and scientific proposals). He has published above 260 scientific-technical publications among them 18 monographs (in particular, 9 books with Nova Science Publishers and 3 books published with Springer). He has 10 Russian and Soviet patents and 3 certificates on Russian state registration of programs for computer. DrSc Ivan A. Parinov is reviewer of Zentralblatt fur Mathematik (Germany) and Mathematical Reviews (USA) from 1994 (around 450 reviews), review papers of journal SOP Transactions on Theoretical Physics (Scientific Online Publishing) from 2013. He was INTAS expert (2004), FP-7 expert (2010), ERA.NET RUS expert (2011, 2015).
