Platon lehren und lernen

In philosophy teaching in LateAntiquity, the unity of teaching and research and the holistic nature of education are not just abstract ideals. This book presents their realisation in philosophy teaching in Late Antiquity and thus examines the historical basis of a conception of education which determined school and university education in Europe from classical times, through the whole of the Middle Ages and up to the beginnings of our university system. Hitherto unknown commentaries on Plato are presented in detail and in German translation for the first time. Einheit von Forschung und Lehre und Ganzheitlichkeit der Bildung sind im spätantiken Philosophieunterricht nicht nur abstrakte Ideale. Das Buch stellt ihre Verwirklichung im philosophischen Unterricht der Spätantike vor und untersucht damit die historische Grundlage eines Bildungskonzepts, das von der Antike an das ganze Mittelalter hindurch bis hin zu den Anfängen unseres Universitätssystems die schulische und universitäre Bildung in Europa bestimmt hat. Erstmals werden weithin unbekannte Platon-Kommentare ausführlich vorgestellt und in deutscher Übersetzung zugänglich gemacht.
