In 2018, cartoonist Alex Schubert sustained a medical accident that led to hallucinations, hospitalization, and a near-death-experience. In Kristof, Schubert relates these life-changing events in all their slippery complexity: nightmarish medical realities give way to visionary states, memories blend with dreams, and we witness what may or may not have been an actual conversation with God. Although Kristof uses characters from Schubert's long-running comic strip Blobby Boys as stand-ins, the book tells a true story, with words and images taken directly from the author's life and rendered on the page with intimate detail, mordant wit, and stunning visuals.
