ABOUT THE SERIES: The Understanding Nursing Associate Practice series (UNAP) is a new collection of books uniquely designed to support trainee nursing associates throughout their training and into a professional career.

Safina Bibi is a children’s nurse, Specialist Community Public Practitioner in School Nursing and a registered Practice Teacher. Currently she is a Senior Lecturer for the FdSc Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship at Birmingham City University (BCU) , leading on the Professional Practice module. She had a leading role in the team for quality assurance of the pilot site at BCU for the national development of the nursing associate role. Recently alongside her team she collected the Student Nursing Times Award 2021 for ‘Nursing Associate Training Programme Provider of the Year’.  Safina is currently studying for her MA in Education, with a keen interest in researching the professional identity of the newly qualified nursing associate in practice. Enrika Comley is NMC registered adult nurse and teacher, with a background in general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiothoracic critical care. She is currently a lecturer at Birmingham City University and has been leading Leadership/Team working in Healthcare module for the nursing associates. Enrika has a special interest in human factors and how they contribute to effective team working, and delivering safe care to the service users. Being part of training first legacy cohort of nursing associates within university has given Enrika an insight into development of the role and the learning needs for the trainees. Enrika is especially passionate about widening participation and support learners new to higher education and additional learning needs. Joanne Forman is a Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University and Course lead for the FdSc Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship. She is a Paediatric Nurse with a wealth of experience in general paediatrics and surgery and has a specialist degree in Burns and Plastics. She transitioned into Nurse Education working with Newly Qualified Practitioners during preceptorship. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is studying for an MA in Education with a specific interest in the Widening participation aspects of Higher Education.
