This accompanying resource guide to Literacy in Process offers the instructor, regardless of experience, a variety of ways to use the book to the greatest advantage.
"Literacy in Process" is designed for the basic language arts or reading methods courses; it may be adopted as a basic text, as the core for a selection of topical paperbacks, or as a reader to supplement another text. The "Resource Guide" that accompanies it is basically a handbook that offers the instructor, regardless of experience, a variety of ways to use the book to the greatest advantage and to get the most out of the readings.

Unlike many instructor's manuals, it does not provide canned lecture notes or summaries of the readings. Instead, it gives teachers a variety of ways to use the book to structure a course, explore specific themes, and direct assignments.

The first section of the "Resource Guide" details the principles of using the reader as the basis for a workshop, with notes on the structure and format of workshops as well as on the role of the teacher in them.

The second section, "Integrating Readings, Assignments, and Videotapes" outlines topics and themes to pursue with students. Each entry lists the complementary articles from the Reader, activities that have been proven useful with students, videotapes that are relevant to the topic, and further reading suggestions for the students to follow up.

The final section consists of handouts and assignments that are referred to in other sections of the "Resource Guide."
