An engaging, accessible guide to recovery from trauma, addictions and anxiety through the innovativetechniques of Shinzen Young's Unified Mindfulness system.
Therapy can be a life-changing tool, but for some, it simply does not produce results. Psychotherapist Shelly Young and meditation teacher Shinzen Young have an alternative option – tried-and-tested therapeutic techniques that draw on the principles of Unified Mindfulness, Shinzen’s revolutionary practice that has already enhanced countless lives.

In When Therapy Doesn’t Work, Shelly and Shinzen share their easy-to-follow methods, which can help you successfully overcome trauma, addictions, anxiety, panic, compulsiveness and more, even if you have struggled to engage with traditional forms of therapy. Their self-help tools are both unique and effective, with the power to combat harmful mental, emotional and behavioural patterns, and help you find freedom within.

Whether you are struggling with your own mental health, trying to help a loved one or looking to expand your practice as a healing professional, this book contains the tools you need to escape old stories, unwind suffering and rediscover joy in the everyday.

Shinzen Young is an American mindfulness teacher and neuroscience research consultant. In 2019, Shinzen became the Co-Director of the Sonication Enhanced Mindful Awareness (SEMA) Lab at the University of Arizona Center for Consciousness Studies. The SEMA Lab endeavors to biophysically operationalize the measurement of mindful awareness.  Shelly Young is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Shelly has been a mindfulness instructor for over 30 years and has led workshops and trainings throughout the U.S. and Canada since 1985.
